26601 Sergeant John William McDonald Bailey MM

John was born on 21/6/96 in Norwich, the son of William and Rose Anna Bailey. He married Selina Bailey of Cross Keys, Corsham. John is believed to have served in the First World War and was awarded the Military Medal and mentioned in despatches twice.

By 1939, he was living in Brixham, Devon and was employed as a lorry driver and mechanic. John re-enlisted in the army at the outbreak of the Second World War and served in 130 Battery, 23rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. This unit was part of the 5th Anti-Aircraft Division and was based in Southampton.

John died in Southampton on 22nd June 1941. He was 45 year old.
