William was born on 4th November 1899 in Sheffield, the son of William & Clara Jackson, William spent most of his childhood and early adult life on the Isle of Wight.
He married Ellen Watkins (of Melksham) in 1920. The family soon moved to Abergavenny, Gwent and two sons were born shortly afterwards.
William was given an Emergency Commission in the 4th Bn, Wiltshire Regiment (TA) on 15th August 1939, which he relinquished on in June 1940 to take up a Commission in the Royal Engineers as a Lieutenant. He was duly appointed as a Surveyor of Works for the Corsham Garrison. From 1941, he resided at 30 Pound Hill, Corsham. His youngest son, son, Flying Officer Ronald Trevor Jackson, was killed in action when his 74 Squadron Spitfire crashed after take-off on 29th September 1944. He was 21 years old was buried in Kortrijk, Belgium.
William died at Shaftsbury Military Hospital. He was 46 years old.
