Electric Vehicles:

  • Wiltshire Council’s first Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Plan was approved in October 2021 (see Cabinet papers, item 72). The plan will help to reduce carbon emissions and increase the number of available EV chargers in the county. 
  • Wiltshire Council will support city, town and parish councils to secure On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) grant funding for residential chargepoints on Wiltshire Council land through council grants of up to £2,500 per site. The plan will also encourage businesses to install workplace chargepoints and will ensure all chargepoints on council-owned land will be supplied with energy from 100% renewable sources.   • Wiltshire Council has carried out a tender process for provision and replacement of electric vehicle charging points at towns with a population of 10,000 or more.
  • Wiltshire Council’s emerging Fleet Strategy (which still needs to be consulted on and agreed) seeks to deliver a carbon neutral provision for 2030 for all council vehicles. The council is replacing several vehicles, with many of them anticipated to be electric.

 

Public transport:

  • Wiltshire Council will further work with commercial Transport operators to mitigate low emission solutions, an example being proposed is Salisbury Electric Buses.
  • Wiltshire Council has started working with parish and town councils and community groups to support car clubs, car sharing and public transport. 
  • Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet agreed its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), which was submitted to government on 29 October 2021 (see Cabinet papersitem 73). 
  • The Wiltshire Council bid to the Department for Transport (DfT) for funding to develop a feasibility study for a new station in Corsham, as part of the Restoring Your Railway Ideas Fund, has been approved and is on track to progress to the next stage of the process. 
  • Wiltshire Council Local Transport Plan 2011-2026, Wiltshire Local Transport Plan 
  • A flexible on demand service is being developed for the Pewsey Vale area, and concessionary bus passes can be temporarily used all day Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays.

 

Active travel: 

  • To encourage active travel, Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) have set out proposals to improve cycling and walking opportunities throughout the county – working closely with town councils. For more information see:  Wiltshire Council Highways – New Active Travel Schemes
  • Wiltshire Council has recently completed cycling and walking schemes on Hilperton Road in Trowbridge and on the B3108 Winsley Road to make the routes safer and easier for children to walk or cycle to school. It has also completed traffic-free routes between Hilperton and Melksham via Semington and on Easton Lane between Chippenham and Corsham to encourage more people to leave their cars at home.
  • Wiltshire Council has placed an order for new electric and non-electric bikes for council staff has been placed with a local bike charity to help reduce car miles and carbon emissions.
  • 74 cycle parking spaces and an e-bike docking station has been installed at Salisbury Train Station.
  • 1,200 pupils have attended Bikeability training since the start of the 2022/23 school year.
  • £878,000 has been allocated for further Active Travel schemes in the county.
  • Corsham Town Council are in the process of replacing its ground staff fleet with Electric Vehicles. So far 1 out of the 4 vehicles are electric. 
  • Corsham Town Council will work in partnership with Wiltshire Council to improve EV infrastructure in Corsham. Plans for this can be found at: Cabinet agrees to plan for new electric vehicle chargers in Wiltshire
  • Corsham Town Council has produced a Corsham Cycling Strategy for 2021-2026 to set out how the Town Council will improve cycling infrastructure in the town and how they will encourage more of our residents to cycle. View our strategy here.
  • Corsham Town Council are in the process of developing a new Transport Plan for Corsham to include public transport, highway maintenance and walking and cycling routes. The plan will contribute towards road and pavement improvements and maintenance where appropriate and identify where transport infrastructure needs to be improved. 
  • Corsham Town Council are working alongside the Corsham Station Reopening Group to help progress a case for reopening the Corsham railway station to increase public transport options and make the town better connected to nearby cities Bath and Bristol. 
  • An Active Travel project group has been set up involving council staff, councillors and local residents who would like to improve Active Travel in Corsham. 
  • Box PC are working with Corsham Station Reopening Group to monitor and help progress a case for rebuilding and reopening a station for connection and addition to local services, including services to Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Abbey Wood via Bath Spa.
  • Box Highways Working Party are researching the possibility of installing EV charging points in two carparks in Box.

 

 

 

Wiltshire Climate Alliance

  • Through Bath & West Community Energy, Wiltshire Climate Alliance are gathering information from local groups on Electric Vehicle sharing projects.

 

Corsham Climate Action

  • Corsham Climate Action have an active Transport Group who are developing proposed policies, responding to Wiltshire Council consultations, and lobbying Wiltshire Council on transport issues.  
  • Corsham Climate Action are also working with community environmental groups across Wiltshire to raise awareness of transport issues.
